INSTALLATION
Side-exit configuration

The 04 case option uses a smooth 1.06 in diameter body with a side cable exit, making the configuration suitable for installation arrangements where cable routing behind the probe is restricted.

SST ARMOR

The 01 armor option adds stainless-steel protection to the probe cable assembly.

Where This Probe Matters
Differential-expansion monitoring for steam turbine machinery
OPERATING SCENARIO
Steam turbine DE monitoring

The 3300 XL 25 mm system is intended for differential-expansion measurement on mid-size to large steam turbine generators. Two proximity transducers can observe a collar or ramp on the rotor to track the relative growth of rotor and stator as the machine changes operating condition.

Why the measurement matters
Rotor and casing growth do not necessarily occur at the same rate. Excessive differential expansion can become a critical turbine operating concern.

MAINTENANCE SEARCH SCENARIO
When a replacement becomes urgent

This part is typically sought when an installed 25 mm probe has suffered cable damage, connector contamination, thermal exposure, mechanical damage, or an abnormal measurement chain during turbine maintenance or troubleshooting.

Downtime consideration
If the DE measurement channel cannot be restored, commissioning, startup, load changes or continued turbine operation may be delayed depending on the plant protection philosophy.

Buyer-Focused FAQ
Practical questions for replacement and turbine maintenance decisions
01 — Can this exact 330851 configuration be used when the existing probe has a side-exit cable arrangement?
Yes. The “04” case option is the smooth 1.06 in diameter side-exit configuration. This is distinct from the “03” rear-exit version, so the physical cable-routing arrangement should be checked before replacement.
02 — Why would a turbine operator choose the 25 mm system instead of a smaller proximity probe?
The 25 mm system provides a 12.7 mm linear range and is specifically suited to differential-expansion measurement on mid-size to large steam turbine generators. Its extended range is important where rotor-to-stator growth differences exceed the practical range of smaller systems.
03 — If only the probe has failed, can the old extension cable and Proximitor Sensor simply remain in service?
The 3300 XL 25 mm system is designed as a matched probe, extension cable and Proximitor Sensor chain. When upgrading from earlier systems, the manufacturer specifies replacing the complete 3300 XL 25 mm transducer system components rather than mixing old-system components with the new 25 mm components.
04 — What should be checked if the replacement probe produces an unexpected DE reading after installation?
Check the complete transducer chain, probe gap, target geometry, cable routing and installation alignment. The specified performance assumes the defined target and test conditions. For DE installations, the transducer should also be capable of being physically moved during verification so that the measurement chain can be checked across its operating range.
05 — Is the 01 armor option meaningful for a turbine probe that already has a protected cable route?
The stainless-steel armor is an additional mechanical protection option for the probe cable assembly. Whether it is necessary depends on the physical routing, nearby mechanical hazards and installation environment. It should not be treated as a substitute for correct cable support and minimum bend-radius requirements.
