TYPICAL MACHINE

Cooling Tower & Air-Cooled Heat-Exchanger Fans

The 190501 Velomitor CT is intended for casing vibration velocity measurement on fan assemblies operating at or above 90 rpm, with 100–300 rpm described as typical operating speed.

Fan motor vibration and speed-reducer vibration can also appear in the measured casing signal.
WHEN ENGINEERS SEARCH FOR IT

Vibration Monitoring Becomes Unreliable

A replacement is commonly considered when an installed velocity channel becomes unavailable, produces readings that no longer represent actual machine vibration, or when low-speed fan vibration must be measured with the required low-frequency response.

Incorrect mounting can reduce amplitude or frequency response and may create signals that do not represent actual vibration.

OPERATIONAL RISK
Losing a dependable vibration channel can weaken the ability to recognize developing mechanical problems.
For rotating fan equipment, an unavailable or misleading vibration measurement can complicate condition assessment and increase the risk of delayed intervention when abnormal rotor vibration develops.
MECHANICAL DETAILS

Mounting & Signal Integrity

The transducer has a 33 mm diameter mounting surface and an 82 mm height. It may be mounted in any orientation, with a specified mounting torque of 4.5 N·m ±0.6 N·m.

The internal electronics are isolated from the case. Pin A becomes positive relative to Pin B when velocity is directed from the base toward the top of the transducer.

PURCHASING FAQ

Questions Before Replacing a 190501-10-00-00

01. Why is the 190501-10-00-00 a suitable choice for low-speed cooling-tower fan monitoring?
Its frequency response extends down to 1.5 Hz at ±3.0 dB, with a 3.0–900 Hz range at ±1.0 dB. This supports casing vibration measurement on fan assemblies operating at speeds as low as 90 rpm.
02. What should be checked when an existing 190501 channel produces unexpectedly low vibration readings?
Check the mechanical mounting before assuming that the machine condition has changed. Improper installation can reduce amplitude or frequency response and may produce a signal that does not represent actual vibration.
03. How much cable distance can be used with the 190501-10-00-00?
The specified maximum cable length is 305 m (1,000 ft) without signal degradation when the specified cable is used. A recommended cable length of 219 m (720 ft) is also given under specified operating conditions.
04. Why does the exact 190501-10-00-00 configuration matter during replacement?
The suffix determines the physical and connection configuration. The “10” specifies the plate-stud mounting option, “00” specifies the MIL-C-5015 connection, and the final “00” specifies no agency approval.
05. When can a failed 190501-10-00-00 become an operational concern rather than a routine spare?
When the transducer is part of an active vibration-monitoring channel, losing the measurement can reduce visibility into casing vibration. Restoring the channel can therefore become important when fan condition assessment depends on continuous or dependable vibration measurements.
