The CM2201 / 7400206-100 is a communication module baseplate used within the Triconex Trident architecture. It provides the physical and electrical interface for communication modules and establishes the communication path between the Communication Modules and the Main Processors.
PART NUMBER
7400206-100
PLATFORM
Trident / Triconex
ARCHITECTURE ROLE
Communication Interface Baseplate
01
CORE ARCHITECTURE
A Communication Layer Built Around the Controller
01
Three-to-One Interface
The CM communication layer interfaces directly with the Main Processors, allowing communication functions to operate alongside the controller's redundant processing architecture.
02
Dual CM Capacity
A single Trident controller can support up to two Communication Modules on one CM Baseplate, providing a practical path for separate or redundant communication arrangements.
03
Network Gateway Role
The communication architecture connects Trident systems with supervisory and plant-level environments, including host computers, DCS platforms and other Triconex controllers.
ENGINEERING SNAPSHOT
Key Electrical & Communication Characteristics
LOGIC SUPPLY
24 VDC
Nominal supply from the Main Processor baseplate.
Operating range: 19.2–30 VDC with specified AC ripple allowance.
BASE LOGIC POWER
8 W MAX.
Baseplate logic consumption without Media Attachment Units.
MAU allowance: additional power must be considered when optional media interfaces are installed.
NETWORK LAYER
10 / 100 Mbps
Communication modules provide Ethernet interfaces at 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps levels.
Media options: BaseT connections or corresponding MAU/MII interfaces.
COMMUNICATION STACK
Flexible Connections for Plant-Level Exchange
The CM communication layer is designed to extend Triconex controller data toward external industrial environments while preserving the controller's fault-tolerant architecture.
SERIAL
Modbus master or slave communication on serial ports.
ETHERNET
TCP/IP, TSAA and TriStation network communication.
SYSTEM LINK
Peer-to-peer communication and time synchronization across compatible Triconex systems.
APPLICATION
Connections for HMI, OPC Server, SOE and other compatible supervisory applications.

Configuration Perspective
The CM2201 baseplate is not an independent control processor. Its role is to provide the mounting and interconnection platform for Communication Modules, which in turn exchange controller data with external networks and compatible applications. Up to two Communication Modules can be installed on one CM Baseplate in a Trident controller configuration.
DIRECT SUPPORT
Need CM2201 / 7400206-100?
For part-number verification, quantity requests, availability, shipping arrangements or system matching, contact our sales team directly.
Can CM2201 7400206-100 accommodate two Communication Modules?
Yes. The CM Baseplate is designed to support up to two Communication Modules on a Trident controller, allowing the communication architecture to be configured for the required network arrangement.
02
What should be checked when replacing a CM2201 7400206-100?
The existing controller architecture, baseplate arrangement, CM quantity, interconnect assemblies and installed communication media should be verified before replacement. The exact part number and revision should also match the existing installation requirements.
03
Does CM2201 7400206-100 determine the communication protocol by itself?
No. The baseplate provides the physical and electrical platform for the Communication Modules. Protocol capabilities are associated with the installed CM configuration, including supported serial and network communication functions.
04
Is CM2201 7400206-100 suitable when the application requires redundant communication paths?
The baseplate can support two Communication Modules, making it suitable for configurations where separate or redundant communication paths are required. The final architecture depends on the controller configuration and communication design.
05
What power margin should be considered for CM2201 7400206-100?
The base logic load is specified at up to 8 W without MAUs. Optional media interfaces add their own power demand, so the complete installed configuration should be evaluated against the available controller power capacity before expansion.
