Advanced Communication Module for I/A Series Integration
The 4609 ACM connects a Tricon controller to a Foxboro I/A Series environment, where it appears as a safety node on the Nodebus. It exchanges aliased process values, alarms, diagnostics and time data while also providing a separate NET 2 path for TriStation and TSAA communication.

Technical Profile
01
I/A Series Nodebus
A 15-pin AUI connection carries Nodebus data to the DNBI, while the 9-pin RS-423 link carries Nodebus control at 2400 baud.
02
NET 2 Host Path
A BNC port for RG-58 50-ohm cable supports TriStation, TSAA and host applications on a separate 10 Mbps network connection.
03
Supervision
PASS, FAULT and ACTIVE show module state; ONLINE and SBRDY show Nodebus status; TX and RX indicators show port activity.

4609 Buyer FAQ
1. Is 4609 intended for standard Ethernet-only integration? No. Its primary role is Tricon-to-Foxboro I/A Series Nodebus integration, with a separate BNC NET 2 path for TriStation and TSAA.
2. Which Tricon versions support 4609? The stated compatibility is Tricon v10.x or earlier. Confirm the controller revision before ordering.
3. Does 4609 support communication continuity? Yes. The ACM architecture supports a hot-spare arrangement for uninterrupted I/A Series Nodebus communication when configured correctly.
4. What cabling must be checked for 4609? Verify the 15-pin AUI path to the DNBI, the 9-pin RS-423 control connection and the RG-58 50-ohm BNC network path used by NET 2.
5. What reduces replacement risk for 4609? Match the exact model, Tricon system version, DNBI/Nodebus architecture, connector types, node addressing and spare-pair arrangement before removing the installed ACM.
