Q1 · Can PLX31-PND-MBS bridge an existing Modbus serial network to a PROFINET Controller?

Yes. PLX31-PND-MBS is designed for bi-directional data transfer between a PROFINET Controller and Modbus serial devices. Its serial interface supports Modbus RTU and ASCII operation, while the PROFINET side operates as a Class A device.

Q2 · When replacing PLX31-PND-MBS, how much Modbus data can the application exchange?

The gateway supports up to 10,000 16-bit registers for data exchange. It also provides up to 100 configurable Modbus commands, allowing the application to organize register, coil and status operations according to the connected devices.

Q3 · Is PLX31-PND-MBS limited to one Modbus communication mode?

No. The serial interface supports both Modbus RTU with CRC-16 error checking and Modbus ASCII with LRC error checking. Communication parameters such as baud rate, parity, data size and stop bits are software configurable.

Q4 · What serial interface options should be checked before ordering PLX31-PND-MBS?

The gateway provides one serial port supporting RS232, RS422 and RS485. The required electrical interface should therefore be checked against the connected Modbus device and its existing serial wiring before replacement or installation.

Q5 · Can PLX31-PND-MBS be configured and diagnosed remotely?

Yes. The gateway provides Ethernet connectivity for network communication, remote configuration and diagnostics. ProSoft Configuration Builder can be used for remote configuration, while the gateway provides protocol and configuration status indications.

CONFIGURATION NOTE

For a replacement project, verify the PROFINET controller configuration, serial interface, Modbus addressing and command requirements together before shipment.
