Signal Conditioning
Without a Bulky Footprint The KFD2-STC4-1 supplies a connected transmitter and transfers the measured current signal to the control side through an isolated signal-conditioning stage. The input supports 0/4–20 mA operation. For a 20 mA input, the available voltage at the field-side transmitter connection is specified at a minimum of 16 V for the relevant terminals. The control-side output provides 4–20 mA and supports loads from 0 to 800 Ω. The output is specified for overload conditions above 25 mA. |

Q1 · Is KFD2-STC4-1 suitable when an existing 4–20 mA transmitter needs to be retained?
Yes, where the existing loop matches the unit's electrical arrangement. KFD2-STC4-1 accepts 0/4–20 mA and is designed to supply 2-wire and 3-wire SMART transmitters. Before replacement, verify the transmitter wiring, supply requirement, terminal arrangement and the receiving control input.

Q2 · Can KFD2-STC4-1 replace a two-channel STC4 unit directly?
Not as a direct channel-for-channel replacement. KFD2-STC4-1 is a one-channel device, while KFD2-STC4-2 provides two channels. If the existing installation uses two independent analog loops, replacing it with a single-channel unit would require the control architecture and wiring to be reconsidered.

Q3 · Does KFD2-STC4-1 provide enough output drive for a control input with significant loop resistance?
The specified output load range is 0–800 Ω. Therefore, the total resistance presented by the receiving circuit should be checked against this range, including connected devices and wiring. If the required load exceeds the specified range, another interface arrangement should be considered.

Q4 · Is KFD2-STC4-1 the right choice when the application specifically requires an Ex interface?
The standard KFD2-STC4-1 should not be treated as interchangeable with an Ex variant solely because both belong to the STC4 family. Pepperl+Fuchs offers dedicated Ex versions with hazardous-area characteristics. If the field circuit has a hazardous-area requirement, the exact Ex designation and applicable approval conditions must be matched before ordering.

Q5 · What should be checked before ordering KFD2-STC4-1 as a lifecycle replacement?
Confirm the complete loop architecture rather than matching only the part number. Check the number of channels, input range, output range, transmitter type, terminal assignment, supply method, output load, mounting arrangement and any required hazardous-area interface. These checks help avoid a replacement that fits mechanically but does not match the installed signal circuit.
