Signal Processing
The module converts the analog input into a 16-bit digital value for communication over the Railbus. In 4–20 mA operation, current values are acquired at a maximum signal-change-to-Railbus availability of 25 ms.

HART data retrieved through the module is treated as non-interfering with the required safety function. HART command 3 can provide device status and process-variable data.
DIAGNOSTIC MATRIX
Four-Level Alarm Logic
The 8810-HI-TX provides high-high, high, low and low-low alarm levels. Alarm dead band can be configured to prevent small signal fluctuations from repeatedly changing alarm status.

Measurement Verification
A second measurement path with different internal circuitry checks the primary measurement. A channel is flagged when the diagnostic comparison exceeds the specified 2% threshold or when the primary measurement differs from an internal reference by more than 2%.
A failed channel is flagged as faulty and made inactive. Other channels continue operating. Reset or power cycling can reactivate the affected channel.
The specified SafetyNet diagnostic test interval is no more than 5 seconds.
SAFETYNET ARCHITECTURE
1oo1D Architecture for SIL 2 Applications
The 8810-HI-TX is specified as an 8-channel SafetyNet analog input module using a 1oo1D architecture for SIL 2 safety applications. Internal diagnostic functions continuously monitor the analog acquisition path.
The configurable failsafe timeout is specified from 400 ms to 5 seconds. If communication with the master SafetyNet Controller does not occur within the configured period, the module enters controlled shutdown.
Intrinsic Safety Integration
For intrinsically safe field connections, an external galvanic isolator meeting the required hazardous-area and functional-safety requirements is specified.
IS zener barriers are normally unsuitable for 8810 modules because their leakage characteristics can affect measurement error or earth-leakage behavior.

Can MTL / EATON 8810-HI-TX support different transmitter wiring arrangements?
Yes. The 8810-HI-TX is specified for 2-wire, 3-wire and 4-wire transmitters. This makes the wiring configuration an important point to verify when replacing an existing analog input position.
Is HART communication on MTL / EATON 8810-HI-TX suitable for the safety signal?
HART data retrieved through the module is treated as non-interfering with the required safety function. HART command 3 can provide status and process-variable data, but the HART data path is not the safety signal path.
What field-isolation arrangement should be checked for MTL / EATON 8810-HI-TX in an intrinsically safe application?
An external galvanic isolator meeting the required hazardous-area and functional-safety requirements is specified for intrinsically safe field connections. The specified arrangement should therefore be checked before selecting the interface hardware.
