EATON CROUSE-HINDS SERIES MTL
MTL5575
Single-Channel Temperature Converter
THC / RTD Input + Configurable Alarm The MTL5575 is a DIN-rail temperature interface for converting low-level temperature sensor signals from a hazardous area into a nominal 4–20 mA signal for a safe-area load. It accepts thermocouple, mV and 2-, 3- or 4-wire RTD inputs, with configurable signal processing and a separate alarm relay.

|
01 / SIGNAL
Flexible Sensor Input
Supports standard thermocouple types J, K, T, E, R, S, B and N, mV input, plus 2-, 3- and 4-wire RTD configurations. |
02 / CONVERSION
4–20 mA Process Output
Converts the selected temperature input into a nominal 4–20 mA signal with a maximum specified load of 600 Ω. |
03 / MONITORING
Alarm + Sensor Diagnostics
The alarm relay can be configured for process alarm operation or early thermocouple failure indication. |
04 / CONFIGURATION
PCS45 + PCL45USB
Configuration is performed through a PC running MTL PCS45 software with the PCL45USB serial interface. |

SIGNAL LOGIC
Sensor → MTL5575 → 4–20 mA
A low-level temperature signal is processed inside the single-channel interface and presented as a standard current output for the safe-area receiving circuit. Hazardous-area sensor / Galvanic interface / Safe-area load
|
FAULT RESPONSE
Selectable Sensor-Failure Drive
Sensor-failure response can be selected as upscale, downscale or off. For thermocouple applications, early burnout detection can be selected and the alarm can respond when loop resistance increases by more than 50 Ω. |
VISUAL STATUS
Power / Status / Alarm
Green indication provides power and status indication. Yellow indication is used for the alarm state when the relay contacts are closed. |
|
MOUNTING / CONNECTION
Compact DIN-Rail Architecture
The MTL5500 platform uses DIN-rail mounting with plug-in hazardous-area and safe-area connectors. A dedicated power connector supports the 20–35 Vdc supply arrangement. The module width is approximately 15.8 mm, supporting dense cabinet layouts.

Can MTL5575 work with an existing temperature loop that uses different sensor wiring?
Yes, the MTL5575 supports 2-, 3- and 4-wire RTD arrangements as well as thermocouple and mV inputs. The correct sensor type, wiring arrangement, range and signal behavior must be configured for the actual loop. This makes the model suitable when a replacement must match an existing sensor architecture rather than only the 4–20 mA receiving side. |
How should MTL5575 be configured when the thermocouple type or measurement range changes?
Configuration is performed from a PC using MTL PCS45 software together with the PCL45USB serial interface. The selectable functions include thermocouple linearisation, ranging, monitoring, testing and tagging. For thermocouple use, cold-junction compensation can also be configured, with the hazardous-area plug incorporating the CJC sensor. |
|
What does MTL5575 do when a thermocouple begins to deteriorate?
When early burnout detection is selected, the unit can detect a thermocouple loop-resistance increase greater than 50 Ω and use the alarm function to indicate the condition. Sensor-failure drive can also be selected as upscale, downscale or off, allowing the output behavior to match the receiving control strategy. |
Will MTL5575 drive a 4–20 mA receiving circuit with a relatively high loop resistance?
The specified MTL5575 output is 4–20 mA nominal into a maximum 600 Ω load. If the existing receiving circuit, isolator, indicator and cable combination approaches or exceeds that value, the complete loop resistance should be checked before replacement. |
|
When should a buyer consider MTL5575 instead of another MTL5500 temperature model?
MTL5575 is the single-channel temperature converter in the range that combines THC/RTD input capability with a configurable alarm output. MTL5573 is the corresponding single-channel temperature converter without the dedicated alarm function, while MTL5576-RTD and MTL5576-THC provide two-channel temperature conversion for their respective input families. The selection therefore depends on channel count, sensor type and whether a separate alarm function is required. |
