Hazardous-area transmitter interface
The KCD2-STC-Ex1 provides galvanic separation between the field and control sides while supplying 2-wire SMART transmitters or accepting current sources. The output can be operated as a current source, current sink, or voltage source through DIP-switch configuration.

01 · FIELD SIDE
2-Wire SMART Transmitter
The input accepts a 4–20 mA signal. The field-side circuit can supply a 2-wire transmitter and is designed for intrinsically safe applications when installed within the applicable parameters.

02 · ISOLATION
Galvanic Separation
Input/output isolation and input/power-supply isolation separate the field signal from the control-side circuit. The rated insulation voltage is 300 Veff for the specified insulation paths.

03 · CONTROL SIDE
PLC / DCS Interface
The control-side output supports 4–20 mA operation and, in source mode, 1–5 V operation through the internal 250 Ω resistor. HART communicator access is available through the dedicated terminal arrangement.

FIELD TRANSMITTER
2-Wire SMART Devices
The device is intended for transmitter supply and analog signal transfer. The field input accepts the 4–20 mA loop signal while maintaining the required electrical separation between field and control sides.
CONTROL SYSTEM
PLC / DCS Analog Interface
Source or sink operation allows the output circuit to be adapted to different control-side analog interface arrangements. Source mode also provides a 1–5 V output through the internal 250 Ω resistor.
HART COMMUNICATION
Communication Access
The terminal arrangement includes connections intended for a HART resistor, supporting access for HART communicators while maintaining the signal-conditioning function.
CABINET INSTALLATION
Compact DIN-Rail Layout
The 12.5 mm housing is designed for compact control cabinet installation on a 35 mm DIN mounting rail, making the module suitable where panel space is limited.

Can KCD2-STC-Ex1 be used when the field transmitter is installed in a hazardous area?
Yes, the KCD2-STC-Ex1 is an associated apparatus with intrinsically safe field circuits. The field-side circuits are intended for suitable intrinsically safe devices, while the barrier itself is installed in the non-hazardous area. The exact installation must comply with the applicable Ex parameters and installation requirements.
Is KCD2-STC-Ex1 suitable for a 4–20 mA SMART transmitter with HART communication?
The device is designed for 2-wire SMART transmitters and supports bidirectional SMART communication. Its terminal arrangement includes connections for a HART resistor, allowing access for HART communicators while the analog signal is transferred to the control side.
When replacing a KCD2-STC-Ex1, does the 1–5 V output setting need to be checked?
Yes. The KCD2-STC-Ex1 can operate in source mode with either 4–20 mA or 1–5 V output. The 1–5 V function uses an internal 250 Ω resistor, so the receiving system and its expected signal format should be verified before replacement.
Does KCD2-STC-Ex1 require attention to the available field-loop voltage during replacement?
