The FS-LBF-I1.32 is designed to divert surge energy toward earth through gas discharge tubes. This architecture is intended to protect connected field devices and control equipment from voltage surges and lightning-related transients.

Can FS-LBF-I1.32 replace an existing fieldbus surge protector in a FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 or PROFIBUS PA installation?
It can be considered when the existing application requires the same intrinsically safe F*-LBF-I1.32 protection concept and the field connection matches the FS version. For an FS-LBF-I1.32 replacement, the M20 × 1.5 connection and hazardous-area requirements should be checked before ordering.

Why does FS-LBF-I1.32 matter when the existing installation already has fieldbus surge protection?
Replacement compatibility depends on more than the surge-protection function. The thread, protection concept, hazardous-area certification, fieldbus application and grounding arrangement all affect whether the replacement is appropriate. FS-LBF-I1.32 is the M20 × 1.5 intrinsically safe version of the family.

Can FS-LBF-I1.32 be selected for a Zone 1 FISCO or Entity fieldbus installation?
Yes. The FS-LBF-I1.32 is certified Ex ia and its hazardous-area electrical limits include separate Entity and FISCO values. Entity values are Ui 30 V, Ii 550 mA and Pi 3 W; FISCO values are Ui 17.5 V, Ii 380 mA and Pi 5.32 W.

Does the FS-LBF-I1.32 require special attention to the grounding arrangement during replacement?
Yes. Effective surge protection depends on a solid ground connection. The manufacturer specifies large ground conductor cross-sections and short wiring as a basic requirement for effective protection. Grounding should therefore be checked as part of replacement work rather than treating the device as an isolated component.

What should be verified before ordering FS-LBF-I1.32 for an existing enclosure?
Confirm the M20 × 1.5 threaded version, the Ex ia protection concept, the intended FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 or PROFIBUS PA application, the required hazardous-area arrangement and the available grounding path. If the existing component uses 1/2" NPT or a flameproof configuration, another F*-LBF variant may be required instead.
