Switch / Proximity Detector Interface
The MTL5011B is a single-channel interface designed to allow a switch or proximity detector in a hazardous area to control a safe-area load. It combines a relay output with selectable phase reversal and line fault detection for open- and short-circuit monitoring of the field circuit.

The MTL5000 family includes several switch/proximity detector interfaces, including MTL5011B, MTL5012, MTL5014, MTL5015, MTL5017 and MTL5018. Their functions and channel arrangements differ, so the family name alone should not be used to determine interchangeability.
For the MTL5011B, Eaton's discontinued-product cross-reference associates MTL5511 as the nearest equivalent product. Replacement selection should still be checked against the installed application and required configuration.

Can MTL5011B be used as a direct replacement for an installed switch interface?
A direct replacement should be confirmed against the installed interface, field device arrangement and required relay function. The MTL5011B is a single-channel interface with relay output, selectable phase reversal and line fault detection, so those functions should match the existing application.

Why would a buyer specifically choose MTL5011B when line fault detection is required?
The MTL5011B provides selectable line fault detection for the field circuit. The function can detect open- and short-circuit conditions, with a detected line fault causing the relay to de-energise. This makes the LFD configuration an important consideration when replacing an installed unit.
