Can MVME2304 be matched by memory capacity alone?
No. The base MVME2304 configuration is specifically associated with the 200 MHz MPC603 and 128MB ECC DRAM. When replacing an installed board, the processor generation, exact model designation and front-panel configuration should be checked together rather than using memory capacity as the only matching criterion.
What should be checked before replacing an MVME2304 in a VME chassis?
The VMEbus slot arrangement, P1/P2 backplane connections, PMC requirements, front-panel I/O and installed firmware or system configuration should be reviewed. The MVME2304 occupies a 6U VMEbus position and its PMC architecture can affect the overall mechanical and I/O arrangement.
Does MVME2304 support PMC-based expansion?
Yes. MVME2304 provides two IEEE P1386.1-compatible PMC expansion positions supporting 32/64-bit PMC operation. The architecture also supports the PMCspan expansion approach described for the MVME2300 family.
How does MVME2304 handle memory reliability in an existing control system?
