The MVME162-212 is a 6U VME embedded controller built around a 25 MHz MC68LC040 processor. Its configuration combines 4 MB DRAM, Ethernet connectivity and two IndustryPack interfaces for embedded control architectures requiring a compact VME computing core.

Can MVME162-212 replace another MVME162LX board without changing the VME application?

Not automatically. MVME162LX variants differ in processor type, DRAM arrangement and optional SCSI or Ethernet functions. For a replacement, the installed software environment, VMEbus role, memory configuration and I/O requirements should all match the target board.
Does MVME162-212 provide Ethernet while retaining IndustryPack expansion?

Yes. The -212 configuration combines Ethernet with two IndustryPack interfaces. This combination distinguishes it from the -210 configuration, which is specified without SCSI or Ethernet, and from the -211 configuration, which adds SCSI instead.
What should be checked when the Ethernet function of MVME162-212 is required by an existing system?

Check the board revision, Ethernet controller arrangement, front-panel connector configuration, VMEbus setup and the software environment that initializes the Ethernet hardware. The -212 uses the 82596CA Ethernet controller with local-bus DMA capability.
Is the 4 MB DRAM configuration of MVME162-212 suitable for a legacy application that used a larger MVME162LX memory option?

The -212 is the 4 MB DRAM Ethernet configuration. If the existing application depends on a larger memory mezzanine, the replacement should be matched to that memory requirement rather than assuming that another 162LX model is equivalent.
Does MVME162-212 include the nonvolatile resources needed by a legacy controller application?

The MVME162LX configuration includes 128 KB battery-backed SRAM, 8 KB NVRAM with a time-of-day clock, and 1 MB Flash on the 2xx/3xx models. These resources are separate from the 4 MB DRAM used for shared program and operating memory.
