The Motorola MVME162-014A is a 25 MHz embedded controller based on the MC68LC040 processor. This model combines 4 MB of DRAM with an Ethernet interface and is configured without the VMEbus interface. The MVME162 family uses a 32-bit local bus architecture and includes onboard memory resources for code execution and retained data. The absence of a VMEbus interface is a decisive selection point. Check how the existing equipment connects to the controller, how Ethernet is wired, and whether the application expects local-bus or VMEbus access. A family-level resemblance is not enough to confirm compatibility.

MVME162-014A is the logical candidate when the original system specifically uses the Ethernet-equipped, non-VMEbus configuration. Do not replace it with a VMEbus-equipped board unless the system design supports that change. Also verify the processor variant, memory map and firmware dependencies.

Not when the application depends on the VMEbus interface. MVME162-014A is configured without that interface. Check the host architecture and bus dependencies before selecting it as a replacement.
Ethernet is part of this model's configuration. The network wiring, software support, connector arrangement and communication settings still need to match the installation.
A matching DRAM capacity does not guarantee equivalent hardware. Processor type, Ethernet and SCSI options, VMEbus presence, firmware and application assumptions can differ between variants.
Verify physical connections, network configuration, application drivers, boot settings and board condition. Also confirm that the system's software is designed for the fitted Ethernet hardware.
