The Motorola MVME162-001 is an embedded controller built around the 25 MHz MC68LC040 processor. Its 32-bit processing architecture is intended for control applications where a known hardware platform, established software environment, and predictable integration path matter more than a wholesale system redesign.
This exact configuration combines 1 MB of DRAM with 512 KB of SRAM. The board family also incorporates flash memory, battery-backed nonvolatile memory and a time-of-day clock. The precise installed memory, firmware and board revision should be checked against the actual unit before a replacement is approved.

CHECK AVAILABILITY ↗The MVME162 family uses serial interfaces and provides four IndustryPack interface positions as part of its overall architecture. Available communication options vary by model and fitted hardware. Do not assume that Ethernet, SCSI or every optional interface is present on the MVME162-001.
For installation planning, verify the host chassis, board seating, airflow, power rails, transition-module wiring, serial interface type, boot firmware and application compatibility. Battery-backed circuitry also makes battery condition and retained settings worth checking during recommissioning.
The model suffix determines the installed hardware. These three variants are not interchangeable solely because they share the MVME162 family name.

Choose MVME162-001 when the original system requires this processor and 1 MB memory configuration. Do not substitute a higher-memory or different-processor variant without checking firmware, memory maps, bus interfaces and application dependencies. The MC68040 and MC68LC040 processor variants should not be treated as identical.

Not automatically. This model has 1 MB DRAM, while other variants may have 4 MB or 8 MB and different processor or interface options. Check memory usage, firmware assumptions, boot configuration and hardware dependencies before substitution.
Do not assume either interface is installed. Ethernet and SCSI vary across the MVME162 family. Confirm the exact board designation and inspect the actual hardware before planning network or storage connections.
Check the battery-backed circuitry, battery condition, jumper configuration and the system's use of SRAM and the time-of-day clock. Preserve any required settings and follow safe maintenance procedures before changing the backup-power arrangement.
Provide the complete part number, board revision, processor marking, memory configuration, chassis type, transition-module arrangement, firmware requirements and the interfaces used by the existing system.
Verify chassis compatibility, correct supply rails, board seating, airflow, connector wiring and serial interface requirements. The family operating specification uses forced-air cooling and an exhaust-air operating range of 0–70 °C; actual system conditions must remain within the applicable limits.
