Electrical Interconnection
The chassis contains a single printed-circuit-board Inter-Module Bus backplane. It provides the electrical interconnections between the modules installed in the Trusted Expander Chassis and supports the physical-layer communication path between them.

PROCESSOR POSITIONS
The two dedicated Trusted Expander Processor positions are pre-configured. They occupy chassis slots 13 and 14, with the left-hand position designated as slot 13.
Triplicated Bus Connections
The chassis bus connections are triplicated, while the external +24 Vdc power supply is provided through a dual-redundant arrangement. The backplane provides two external power input connections so redundant power can be distributed to the modules in the chassis.

System-Level Integration
The T8300C works as part of the Trusted expansion architecture rather than as an isolated chassis. Physical slot arrangement and the corresponding system layout need to agree.

System ID Three 4-position DIP switches provide the chassis system identification setting from 0 to 15.

Expander Interface Expander chassis are connected to the controller through the Trusted Expander Interface architecture.

Physical Layout The configured chassis and module arrangement must correspond to the actual physical system.
For frame installation, the chassis requires 90 mm spacing between chassis to assist convection cooling. The chassis can be installed in a swing-frame or fixed-frame arrangement; rear panel mounting can be achieved with the T8380 panel mounting kit.

When a Trusted controller requires additional I/O positions, the expander chassis provides the physical space for Trusted I/O modules and Expander Processors while retaining the Trusted IMB architecture.

A chassis change should preserve the intended Trusted system configuration.

Can T8300C accommodate a larger I/O requirement without changing the chassis architecture?
The T8300C provides up to 12 single-width Trusted I/O module positions and up to two single-width Trusted Expander Processor positions. If the required module count exceeds this physical capacity, additional Trusted expansion architecture needs to be considered rather than overloading one chassis.

When replacing T8300C, why should the physical slot arrangement be checked before ordering?
The processor positions are dedicated to slots 13 and 14, while the remaining positions accommodate Trusted I/O modules. The installed module arrangement, backplane configuration and system layout therefore need to match the replacement chassis arrangement.

Does T8300C support long-distance expander communication for separated equipment areas?
Yes, the Trusted T8300 architecture supports up to 30 m with TC-301 copper cable. With the applicable fibre converters, the stated maximum expander communication distance is 10 km. The actual installation must use the appropriate Trusted communication arrangement.

What should be checked if T8300C replacement is associated with an expander communication fault?
Check the chassis system identification settings, the three DIP-switch address settings, the Expander Processor arrangement, connected Expander Interface path and physical communication connections. The three chassis address settings must agree; an incorrect setting can cause an error condition.

Why is the 90 mm spacing requirement important when installing T8300C?
The T8300C uses convection cooling through the chassis. A minimum 90 mm space between chassis on a frame is specified to assist the cooling process. This should therefore be considered when replacing or adding chassis in a crowded installation.
