A Compact Safety-Related Digital Output Platform
The HIMA F2 DO 16 01 is a HIMatrix remote I/O device providing 16 digital outputs for safety-related automation architectures. It communicates with the associated controller through SafeEthernet and is intended to operate together with a controller rather than as a standalone control device. The module provides two Ethernet interfaces with an integrated switch and is designed for DIN-rail installation. Its output architecture is suited to applications where distributed digital actuator signals need to be connected to a HIMatrix safety system. Distributed I/O Without Losing the Safety Architecture

Load Handling
Each output can be loaded up to 2 A below 40°C and up to 1 A from 40°C to 60°C. The total permissible current is limited by the specified group and module values. |

Dual Ethernet Interface
Two RJ-45 interfaces support 10BASE-T and 100BASE-Tx communication with an integrated switch. Auto negotiation and auto crossover simplify network connection requirements. |

Operating, system, communication and I/O LEDs provide local status indication. Diagnostic history can also be read through the applicable programming environment. |

Communication Diagnosis
Communication LEDs, I/O indicators and diagnostic history can help maintenance personnel distinguish network, module and output-related problems. |
If an output is overloaded, the affected output is switched off and cyclically switched on again. If communication with the controller is lost, the outputs assume their configured initial values. Inductive loads should be considered carefully, and HIMA recommends using a protective diode directly at the actuator.

01 — Is F2 DO 16 01 a suitable replacement when the existing system requires sixteen digital safety outputs?
It can be considered when the replacement application requires the same basic HIMatrix remote-I/O role, sixteen digital outputs, 24 VDC operation and compatible SafeEthernet communication. The existing controller configuration, output loads and wiring should be checked before replacement. |
02 — What should be checked before ordering F2 DO 16 01 for a high-current actuator application?
The output load is critical. The specified maximum is 2 A per output below 40°C and 1 A from 40°C to 60°C, with a maximum 8 A per group. Lamp and inductive loads also have specified limits, so the actual actuator characteristics should be confirmed before purchase. |

03 — Is F2 DO 16 01 appropriate for an installation exposed to temperatures above 60°C?
The standard F2 DO 16 01 has an operating range of 0…+60°C. Applications requiring a different environmental class should be evaluated against the available HIMatrix variants rather than assuming that the standard module has the same rating. |
04 — How can F2 DO 16 01 help when a remote output channel repeatedly trips?
The module's specified overload behavior switches the affected output off and cyclically switches it on again. Maintenance should therefore examine the connected load, wiring and current demand rather than treating repeated output shutdown as a simple communication fault. |

05 — Should F2 DO 16 01 or F2 DO 16 014 be selected for a railway replacement project?
The F2 DO 16 014 is the railway-oriented variant, with -25…+70°C operation and additional vibration and shock testing requirements. The standard F2 DO 16 01 is specified for 0…+60°C. For railway applications, the environmental and certification requirements should therefore be checked against the exact replacement variant. |
