IEC 61850 Communication for RX3i
The GE IC695ECM850 is an IEC 61850 Ethernet Communication Module for the PACSystems RX3i platform. It connects an RX3i controller to an IEC 61850 network and allows the controller to operate as an IEC 61850 Client communicating with Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) functioning as IEC 61850 servers. The module supports multiple IED connections, data read and write operations, control models, buffered and unbuffered reporting, data-model browsing and self-description functions. It is designed for electrical substation automation and other control architectures where IEC 61850 communication is required. Four switched Ethernet interfaces provide two RJ-45 copper ports and two SFP cages. This allows copper and fiber media to be combined according to the network architecture. Star and linear network topologies are supported. |

The IC695ECM850 belongs to the PACSystems RX3i family of rack-based control and communication modules. Within an RX3i architecture, the ECM850 serves a specialized IEC 61850 communication role rather than acting as a conventional general-purpose Ethernet interface. Its four-port arrangement allows a project to combine copper Ethernet with compatible SFP-based fiber connections. Multiple ECM850 modules can be deployed in one RX3i CPU system when the application requires additional IEC 61850 device connections or separated communication configurations. The maximum configuration is four ECM850 modules per RX3i CPU, with the modules installed in the main rack. Remote or expansion-rack installation is not supported for the ECM850. |
