Local Control Inside the Field Control Station
|
The IC670MFP100 is a Series 90 Micro Field Processor designed for use within the GE Field Control distributed I/O architecture.
Unlike an ordinary remote I/O module, the MFP contains a processor that executes a user program locally. It exchanges values with the Field Control station through the backplane while the BIU maintains the station's connection to the higher-level control system. A Field Control station using the MFP can accommodate up to seven I/O modules. This arrangement allows control logic to execute closer to field devices without removing the station from the surrounding Field Control architecture. |

STATION FIT
Can I install IC670MFP100 in my existing Field Control station?
|
The processor is designed for the Field Control platform, but the existing station should be checked before installation. The BIU must be release 2.00 or later and the station configuration must include the MFP correctly. Because the MFP occupies one station position, up to seven I/O modules can be used with it. |

PROGRAM RECOVERY
What happens to my machine program when the original IC670MFP100 is replaced?
|
The local user application must be available for the replacement processor. The MFP stores program logic, registers and other control values used by the station. Before removing a failed processor, confirm that a usable application backup exists and that the replacement firmware is compatible with the programming environment used to restore it. |

ENGINEERING MATCH
Why should I check the firmware and programming-software version before buying?
|
Compatibility depends on the processor firmware release. Later MFP firmware revisions introduced newer programming-release requirements. For example, firmware release 1.02 requires programming and configuration software release 6.50 or later. Checking both sides before shipment reduces the risk of arriving on site with a processor that cannot accept the existing application as expected. |

FAULT DIAGNOSIS
When does it make sense to suspect the IC670MFP100 instead of the field I/O?

The four front indicators help narrow down the problem. Normal PWR with abnormal OK or RUN behavior can point toward processor self-test, application or operating-state problems rather than a simple field-I/O fault. COMM activity can also be checked when troubleshooting the serial engineering connection. |

What should I send with an IC670MFP100 inquiry when the machine is already down?

Send the complete part number and revision, processor firmware, BIU release, programming-software version and existing station layout. Also indicate whether the original user application has been backed up and identify the machine or system where the MFP is installed. These checks are more useful for replacement accuracy than ordering by part number alone. |
