Each channel can be configured for resistance measurement or temperature measurement in Celsius or Fahrenheit.
The module provides RTD excitation current and automatically matches the excitation current to the configured RTD type.
The module reports high/low conditions, underrange, overrange, open-wire conditions and input shorts.
IC670ALG620 is used where RTD measurements need to enter a GE Field Control station for monitoring and control. Four independent RTD channels allow multiple temperature points to be handled through one module.
It is particularly relevant when an existing control installation needs to maintain temperature acquisition from platinum, nickel, nickel/iron or copper RTDs without replacing the complete Field Control architecture.
If a temperature acquisition channel becomes unavailable, the affected monitoring or control loop may lose its expected process value. For a running plant, rapid replacement can therefore help reduce troubleshooting and production interruption time.
