Q1. Can IC200BEM003 be used when replacing an existing PROFIBUS-DP master in a VersaMax installation?
It can be considered for a VersaMax PROFIBUS-DP master replacement when the existing architecture uses the required communications carrier and a supported host arrangement. The BEM003 requires the IC200CHS006 communications carrier, so the carrier and host configuration should be checked together rather than treating the module as an independent plug-in replacement.
Q2. Is IC200BEM003 suitable for a PROFIBUS network with many existing slave nodes?
Yes, the module supports up to 125 PROFIBUS-DP slave devices. The practical configuration still depends on the selected network architecture, station addressing, segmentation and the data required by each slave. Each slave can have up to 244 bytes of input data and 244 bytes of output data.
Q3. What should be checked before ordering IC200BEM003 for an RX3i PROFINET architecture?
Confirm that the intended system uses a compatible PROFINET Scanner and that the PNS firmware requirement is satisfied. The BEM003 requires a PNS version 1.10 or later when configured as a module on a VersaMax PROFINET Scanner in an RX3i PROFINET system.
Q4. Does IC200BEM003 provide enough data capacity for a large PROFIBUS-DP configuration?
With a VersaMax CPU, the maximum mapped PROFIBUS data is 3,584 bytes of input data and 3,584 bytes of output data. When used with a PROFINET Scanner head end, the maximum is 1,440 bytes of input data and 1,440 bytes of output data. The applicable capacity therefore depends on the host architecture.
Q5. What installation detail should be checked when replacing IC200BEM003 in an operating cabinet?
IC200BEM003 does not support hot-swap installation or removal with power applied. Power should be removed before the module is installed on or removed from the communications carrier. The PROFIBUS connection also uses a standard female DB9 interface, and network termination must be provided by suitable bus hardware because the module does not contain built-in termination.
