Product Overview

The EPRO MMS6250 is a microprocessor-based shaft position and axial displacement monitoring module from the MMS6000 machinery protection system. It is specifically designed for continuous monitoring and protection of critical rotating equipment such as steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors, generators, and pumps. The module processes signals from eddy current sensors and provides accurate shaft position measurements, alarm functions, and trip protection to help prevent catastrophic machinery failures.

Core Function & Application

The MMS6250 is typically configured as a Dual-Channel Eccentricity Monitor or a specialized displacement module.

Ø Primary Measurement: It measures the shaft eccentricity (peak-to-peak displacement at very low speeds). Monitoring eccentricity is absolutely critical during the barring/turning gear phase of a steam turbine to ensure the rotor is not thermally warped or bowed before bringing the machine up to full speed.

Ø Key Application: Turbine Supervisory Instrumentation (TSI) systems in power plants, large centrifugal compressors, and petrochemical turbo-machinery.

Ø Dual-Channel Independence: Features two completely independent measurement channels, allowing for redundancy or the monitoring of two separate bearings/points simultaneously.

Ø Microprocessor-Controlled: Internal digital processing converts analog signals from eddy current sensors into highly accurate displacement and eccentricity values.

Ø Field Configurable: Parameters such as measuring range, alarm limits, filter frequencies, and sensor characteristics can be fully customized using dedicated configuration software (e.g., MMS 6910).

Ø Built-in Protection Relays: Equipped with dedicated limit relays for Alert and Danger levels. These can be wired directly into the Emergency Shutdown System (ESD) or DCS for automated machine trip protection.
