NON-CONTACT MACHINERY MEASUREMENT
Designed for rotating machinery condition measurement
The AMS EZ 1000 8 mm sensor family provides non-contact eddy-current measurement for critical turbomachinery applications. The sensor and AMS EZ 1000 Converter form the complete measuring chain and can be used for contactless distance, vibration and speed measurements. Applications include steam turbines, gas turbines, hydro turbines, compressors, gearboxes, pumps and fans.

MOUNTING GEOMETRY
Keep the sensing area clear
Minimum free space
A minimum ±45° free space with a minimum diameter of 24 mm is required around the sensor tip to avoid significant influence from surrounding ferromagnetic material.
Recommended mounting area
For EZ108x sensors, the recommended target diameter is greater than 20 mm. The minimum measuring area is 14 mm.
Runout control
The measuring track should have high concentricity and be free of scratches, corrosion and other irregularities that can introduce runout into the output.

EZ190x Extension Cable
When the 0.5 m sensor cable does not provide sufficient installation length, the EZ190x extension cable family can be used. The complete sensor-plus-extension cable arrangement must remain within the supported overall cable-length limits for the system.

Probe Holder Relationship
The AMS EZ 1000 Probe Holder supports sensor mounting arrangements including reverse-mount sensors such as EZ1080-RM-00-XXX. The reverse-mount sensor uses an integrated lock nut in this arrangement.

Q1 — Can EZ1080-RM-00-005 be substituted for another EZ1080 sensor already installed on a machine?
It depends on the existing mechanical configuration. EZ1080-RM-00-005 is an 8 mm, M10 × 1, non-armored sensor with Reverse Mount, 0 mm unthreaded length and a 0.5 m cable. A replacement should match the mounting direction, thread, cable arrangement and required sensing geometry rather than relying on the EZ1080 family name alone.

Q2 — Does the 0.5 m cable on EZ1080-RM-00-005 affect how the complete measurement chain should be ordered?
Yes. The 005 configuration represents a 0.5 m sensor cable. If the installation requires a longer distance between sensor and converter, an EZ190x extension cable can be added. The complete sensor cable plus extension arrangement must remain within the supported system cable-length range.

Q3 — What should be checked before using EZ1080-RM-00-005 on a shaft with a relatively small target surface?
For EZ108x sensors, the minimum target diameter is 14 mm and the recommended target diameter is greater than 20 mm. The minimum shaft diameter is 20 mm, with 25 mm or larger recommended. Surrounding ferromagnetic material also needs sufficient clearance because it can influence the measurement.

Q4 — Is EZ1080-RM-00-005 suitable when the sensor will be installed close to hot rotating equipment?
The sensor with 1 m cable is specified for −35°C to +180°C, while the cable and connector are specified for −35°C to +150°C. The stated differential-pressure capability is 145 psi at temperatures up to 120°C. Actual installation conditions should remain within the applicable limits of the complete arrangement.

Q5 — What is the practical difference between EZ1080-RM-00-005 and an EZ1082 sensor when replacing an existing probe?
Both belong to the 8 mm sensor family, but the case thread is different. EZ1080 uses M10 × 1, while EZ1082 uses 3/8"-24 UNF. EZ1080-RM-00-005 additionally specifies the Reverse Mount configuration, 0 mm unthreaded length and 0.5 m cable. The replacement must therefore match the actual mechanical mounting arrangement.
