Technical
Architecture

The probe is the sensing element of a complete 3300 XL 8 mm proximity transducer system. The system converts the changing distance between the probe tip and a conductive target into a proportional electrical output.

One System,
Different Mechanical Choices

The 3300 XL 8 mm family uses a common electrical measurement architecture while allowing different probe mounting, length and cable configurations. Selecting the correct mechanical variant is important when replacing an installed probe.

3300 XL 8 mm Probe + appropriate cable arrangement + matching 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor.

330104
M10 × 1 · Armored

The target configuration. Metric mounting thread with armored probe lead, suitable where additional mechanical cable protection is required.

330103
M10 × 1 · Without Armor

Same metric base family, but without the armored lead. This can simplify routing where the installation already provides adequate cable protection.

330101 / 330102
3/8-24 · Non-metric

The corresponding standard-mount family using 3/8-24 UNF threads. Thread compatibility must be checked before substitution.

Why the exact configuration matters

For a replacement, do not compare only the 330104 base number. The unthreaded length, overall case length, total probe length, connector/cable option and approval designation determine the physical and system configuration. For this model, the 250 mm case length and 5 m probe length are particularly important when checking installation clearance and Proximitor Sensor compatibility.

Installation checkpoints

The M10 × 1 configuration permits a maximum thread engagement of 15 mm. The 250 mm case length should not be confused with permissible thread engagement. Cable routing should respect the 25.4 mm minimum bend radius.

For radial vibration applications, the recommended nominal gap is approximately 1.27 mm (50 mils), corresponding to approximately −9 Vdc in the specified system conditions.

Target & spacing considerations

The published minimum flat target size is 15.2 mm diameter. A shaft diameter of at least 50.8 mm is specified for the stated cross-talk condition, while 76.2 mm is the recommended minimum shaft diameter.

When multiple transducers are installed, maintaining adequate tip-to-tip separation helps control cross-talk; typical minimum separations are approximately 40 mm for axial position measurements and 38 mm for radial vibration measurements under the stated conditions.

04 / PURCHASING QUESTIONS

FAQ · 330104-00-25-50-02-CN

Five practical checks for replacement, compatibility and installation planning.

Q1 · Can 330104-00-25-50-02-CN be connected directly to a 5 m 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor?

Yes, the 5.0 m probe length is designed for use with the 5 m Proximitor Sensor configuration. The system length must be treated as a matched probe/cable/sensor configuration; a 5 m probe should not be paired with a 9 m Proximitor Sensor simply because the connector is physically compatible.

Q2 · Does the 250 mm case length of 330104-00-25-50-02-CN require a 250 mm mounting thread?

No. The 25 configuration denotes the overall case length, not permissible thread engagement. For the M10 × 1 probe thread, the maximum thread engagement is 15 mm. Installation should therefore check both the 250 mm physical case dimension and the separate thread-engagement limit.

Q3 · Is 330104-00-25-50-02-CN a suitable replacement for a 330103 probe?

Both belong to the metric 3300 XL 8 mm family and use the M10 × 1 mounting thread, but 330104 is the armored version while 330103 is the non-armored version. Substitution should therefore be based on the installed cable-routing space, mechanical protection requirement and complete part-number configuration rather than the base family alone.

Q4 · What should be checked before replacing 330104-00-25-50-02-CN in a crowded bearing installation?

Check the 250 mm case geometry, M10 × 1 mounting arrangement, the 15 mm maximum thread engagement, cable routing and the 25.4 mm minimum cable bend radius. Also verify target size and neighboring probe spacing where multiple proximity probes are installed, because cross-talk can affect the measurement.

Q5 · What should be confirmed for the CN configuration of 330104-00-25-50-02-CN before a regulated-area replacement?

The complete suffix should be checked against the required country and installation approval conditions before ordering. The standard 3300 XL 8 mm ordering structure distinguishes agency approval as a separate configuration field, so the exact supplied suffix should be matched to the installation requirement rather than assuming that every 330104 variant carries the same approval configuration.
