A GuardLogix primary controller with 4 MB standard user memory and 1 MB safety task memory, designed for GuardLogix safety architectures that pair the primary controller with a safety partner.
01 / SAFETY CONTROL
Controller Profile
GuardLogix L6 safety control with a defined partner architecture
The 1756-L62S is the primary controller in the GuardLogix L6 family. It provides 4 MB of standard user memory and 1 MB for safety tasks. For the applicable SIL 3 / PLe GuardLogix architecture, the primary controller operates with a 1756-LSP safety partner installed immediately to its right.

02 / FAMILY RELATION
Choosing 1756-L62S in the GuardLogix Family
L6 family comparison
Within the 1756-L61S / L62S / L63S group, the standard user-memory capacities are 2 MB, 4 MB and 8 MB respectively. The L62S sits in the middle, making it a practical choice when the L61S memory ceiling is too small but the L63S capacity is unnecessary.
Safety partner relationship
For 1756-L61S, 1756-L62S and 1756-L63S, the matching safety partner is 1756-LSP. The partner is installed immediately to the right of the primary controller, and the firmware major and minor revisions of the two must match exactly to establish the control partnership required for the safety application.

BUYER QUESTIONS
Five Practical Questions About the Model
01 · Why would a buyer choose 1756-L62S instead of 1756-L61S or 1756-L63S?
The L62S provides 4 MB of standard user memory, between the 2 MB L61S and 8 MB L63S. It is the middle-capacity option in that L6 safety-controller group.
02 · What safety partner is paired with 1756-L62S?
The GuardLogix L6 family uses the 1756-LSP safety partner for 1756-L61S, 1756-L62S and 1756-L63S. The partner is installed immediately to the right of the primary controller.
03 · Does 1756-L62S have an embedded Ethernet port?
No. Rockwell Automation lists no embedded network port and one RS232 local programming port. Network architecture therefore depends on the appropriate ControlLogix communication modules or system interfaces.
04 · What memory should be considered when replacing 1756-L62S?
The controller has 4 MB of standard user memory and 1 MB for safety tasks. The project and safety application must fit the applicable memory limits, and firmware compatibility with the safety partner must be checked before commissioning.
05 · What is the current lifecycle consideration for 1756-L62S?
The product is discontinued as of June 1, 2017. Rockwell Automation lists 1756-L72S as the functional replacement category. For an installed system, replacement selection should still be checked against the complete application and compatibility requirements.
