Woodward 5430-933 is an MPU kit built around the 1680-631 magnetic pickup configuration. It uses a 5/8-18 mounting thread, a 4.5-inch thread length and a 250-ohm DC resistance, with the mating connector included as part of the kit.
BUILT FOR SPEED SIGNAL CONTINUITY
A passive magnetic pickup generates an electrical signal as magnetic material moves through its magnetic field, allowing the speed-control system to derive rotational speed from the resulting frequency.

Where 5430-933 Fits in a Speed-Control SystemThe 5430-933 is suited to applications where a Woodward speed-control system needs a passive magnetic pickup to sense rotational speed from moving ferromagnetic material. Woodward describes MPUs as a common way to detect prime mover speed, particularly from engine or turbine gear teeth. During normal operation, the pickup converts the changing magnetic field caused by passing magnetic material into an electrical signal. The speed-control circuit then uses the signal frequency to represent actual prime mover speed.

DOWNTIME ANGLE
A small sensor can become a large control problem.
If the prime mover speed signal is absent, weak or inconsistent, the control may not have the feedback required for normal speed regulation. For machinery where speed control is essential to operation, this can extend troubleshooting and increase downtime exposure. Check the pickup-to-gear relationship and signal path before assuming the controller itself has failed.
