Signal Conditioner for the LS120 Sensor

ILS730 excites the LS120 electric-field sensor and processes its returned signal into a measurement proportional to rotor-to-stator distance. It is designed for large alternators, hydroelectric generators and other machines where contactless air-gap monitoring is required.

ILS730 is not a stand-alone proximity transmitter. It is the electronic half of the LS120 / ILS730 air-gap system, developed to measure the distance between a generator stator and the passing rotor without mechanical contact.

How the measurement works

The conditioner drives the transmitter electrode in LS120 with a high-frequency signal. The rotor surface changes electric-field coupling to the receiver electrode, and ILS730 processes the returned signal into an air-gap measurement.

Can ILS730 be used without an LS120 sensor?
No. ILS730 is designed as part of the LS120 / ILS730 air-gap measurement system. The sensor and its integral dual-coaxial cable are essential parts of the measurement chain.

What measurement range should be expected from ILS730?
The system is specified for a 5 to 30 mm linear air-gap range when installed with the compatible LS120 sensor and correct geometry.

Why is ILS730 used on large generators?
It provides contactless rotor-to-stator air-gap measurement and enhanced rejection of noise and spikes induced by high excitation currents, making it suitable for hydroelectric generators and large alternators.

What cable detail must be checked before buying ILS730?
Confirm whether the installed LS120 sensor has the 5 m or 10 m integral cable. Cable routing, connector condition and mechanical protection should also be inspected.

Can ILS730 replace an eddy-current proximity conditioner?
No. ILS730 uses an electric-field air-gap principle with LS120. Eddy-current shaft-vibration systems use different sensors, calibration, ranges and signal conditioners.
