BUYER QUESTIONS
PLX51-HART-4I before purchase
The key points below focus on integration, field-device arrangement and replacement planning.
⌁
01
Can PLX51-HART-4I fit a Rockwell Logix-based HART architecture?
Yes. EtherNet/IP is supported, and ProSoft specifies that EtherNet/IP can place a HART device directly into a Rockwell Automation Logix I/O tree. This makes the module suitable when HART field devices need to be integrated into a Logix Ethernet architecture.
02
When does PLX51-HART-4I make sense for a multidrop HART installation?
The module supports point-to-multipoint operation. For EtherNet/IP, ProSoft specifies a maximum of 7 devices in the point-to-multipoint network arrangement. Modbus TCP/IP also supports point-to-multipoint operation, while DNP3 is specified for point-to-point operation.
03
Does PLX51-HART-4I preserve the analog process value as well as HART communication?
Yes. The input channels support analog 4–20 mA process signals together with HART communication. The specified analog input range is 0–22 mA, with a 12-bit ADC and 247.5 Ω input impedance.
04
What should be checked when PLX51-HART-4I is replacing an older HART gateway?
Confirm the required Ethernet protocol, controller architecture, number of HART channels, point-to-point or multidrop topology, field-device current range, and available 12–28 VDC supply. The module also provides configuration and diagnostic functions that should be matched to the existing control architecture before replacement.
05
Can PLX51-HART-4I work with more than one Ethernet protocol?
Yes. The configuration supports EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, DNP3 TCP, DNP3 UDP, and PCCC (AB-ETH) selections. The required protocol should be selected according to the controller or supervisory architecture being connected.
