The MVME162-520 is an embedded VME controller configuration centered on the 32 MHz MC68040 processor. Its 8 MB onboard DRAM, 512 KB battery-backed SRAM, Flash storage, two serial interfaces and four IndustryPack sites form a compact controller platform for modular VME systems.

A controller built around expansion Four IndustryPack interfaces give the MVME162-520 a modular I/O path, while the VMEbus interface connects the controller to the wider chassis. The standard family architecture also includes Flash, battery-backed SRAM, NVRAM/time-of-day functions and timers.
Processing core
The MC68040 provides the 32-bit processor foundation at a 32 MHz clock rate for the -520 configuration.
Memory architecture
8 MB DRAM is combined with 512 KB battery-backed SRAM and 1 MB Flash, creating separate working and persistent storage resources.
Modular I/O
Four DMA IndustryPack sites allow application-specific I/O expansion without changing the basic VME controller architecture.

Q1. What specifically distinguishes MVME162-520 from MVME162-510?
Both are 32 MHz MC68040 configurations with four DMA IndustryPack sites and two serial interfaces, but MVME162-520 carries 8 MB DRAM while MVME162-510 carries 4 MB.
Q2. If an existing system needs SCSI, is MVME162-520 the direct configuration to request?
No. The -520 configuration is the 8 MB version without the dedicated SCSI option represented by MVME162-521. If SCSI is part of the required controller configuration, the -521 family member should be considered instead.
Q3. Can MVME162-520 provide application-specific I/O without replacing the controller?
Its four IndustryPack sites are intended for modular I/O expansion. This allows the controller platform to be paired with suitable IndustryPack modules while retaining the same processor and VMEbus base.
