Technical Architecture
The X-CPU 01 combines a safety-related processor system, system controller, Ethernet switch, memory, mode switch and status indicators within the HIMax processor module.
| PROCESSING CORE |
| The safety-related processor system uses a 1oo2 architecture with two synchronous microprocessors. A hardware comparator checks processor data, while a watchdog monitors processor operation. Continuous self-tests support safe operation. |
| The module uses PowerPC processing and provides dedicated DDRAM for the processor system. The non-volatile memory retains operating system data, user project data, configuration values, retain variables, production data, fault history and events. |

Where X-CPU 01 Matters
The X-CPU 01 is intended for HIMax applications where safety-related processing, dependable communication and continuous diagnostic capability are important. It safely processes the user program and communicates with I/O modules and external units.
SYSTEM ROLE
Safety Processing
The processor executes the user program and coordinates data transfer between the safety-related processor system, system buses and Ethernet interfaces.
WHEN ENGINEERS SEARCH FOR THIS PART
It is commonly relevant when a HIMax processor module fails to start correctly, enters a fault condition, loses expected processor operation, or shows abnormal processor, watchdog, redundancy or communication status. The built-in LEDs, self-tests and event handling support structured diagnosis.
DOWNTIME CONSIDERATION
Control Continuity
A processor fault in a safety control platform can interrupt execution of the intended control strategy and may place the process into a defined safe condition. For critical installations, having a correctly matched replacement available can reduce recovery time.
DIAGNOSTIC DESIGN
Built Around Continuous Checking
Two synchronous processors operate as a 1oo2 safety-related processor system. Processor data is compared by hardware, a watchdog supervises both processors, and continuous self-tests support the safe operating state.

System-Level Compatibility Context
The HIMax platform includes processor, communication, power and I/O modules. Related processor and platform modules include X-CPU 31, X-COM 01, X-COM 01 E, X-SB 01, X-DI 64 01, X-DO 32 01, X-AI 32 01 and X-AO 16 01. These are different functional positions within the HIMax architecture, so replacement selection should follow the installed system configuration rather than appearance alone.
Key distinction
X-CPU 01 is the processor module. X-CB 001 01 is the connector board required for the processor module to operate as a functional unit. |

X-CPU 01 Buyer FAQ
Practical purchasing questions for engineers evaluating a replacement processor within an existing HIMax installation.
Why would X-CPU 01 be the critical replacement rather than another HIMax module?
Because X-CPU 01 is the processor position in the HIMax architecture. Communication, I/O and power modules perform different roles, so a visually similar module is not automatically an equivalent processor replacement.
How does X-CPU 01 support continued safety-related processing?
Its 1oo2 architecture uses two synchronous microprocessors with data comparison, watchdog supervision and continuous self-tests. The design is intended to detect processor-side discrepancies rather than relying on a single processing path.
What should be checked before ordering X-CPU 01 for an existing rack?
Confirm the installed HIMax processor position, part number, connector-board arrangement, system configuration and current fault condition. The X-CPU 01 operates with a suitable connector board, such as X-CB 001 01.
What makes X-CPU 01 useful when diagnosing an intermittent processor problem?
The module provides processor status indication, watchdog supervision, self-tests and event recording. Up to 5,000 events can be retained, giving maintenance personnel a chronological operational record for investigation.
When should X-CPU 01 be checked as a possible cause of HIMax downtime?
It becomes a relevant candidate when processor operation, watchdog status, redundancy indication, system communication or startup behavior becomes abnormal. Diagnosis should also consider power, connector-board, wiring, configuration and surrounding system conditions before replacing the processor.
