The HIMA F6220 is a safety-related thermocouple input module designed for H41q/H51q systems. It provides eight thermocouple channels and a separate Pt100 input used as the reference-temperature input. The thermocouple channels are configured through the HIMA HF-TMP-3 function block. A channel that has not been properly configured does not provide valid process functionality. Each channel supplies a safe measured value together with a corresponding error status for safety-related evaluation. |

Selection principle: F6220 is the appropriate family member when the field signal is thermocouple temperature measurement and the installation requires the intrinsically safe input design. It should not be treated as a generic substitute for F6217 or F6221 simply because those modules also provide analog input functions.

Where F6220 Fits
F6220 is suited to safety-related temperature acquisition where thermocouples are installed in hazardous areas and intrinsically safe signal circuits are required. The thermocouples can be installed in hazardous areas up to Zone 0 when the complete installation meets the applicable requirements. Typical engineering considerations include process temperature monitoring, safety-related temperature thresholds, burner or thermal-process supervision, and other applications where temperature values must be incorporated into a safety-related HIMA PES. |
When a Replacement Is Needed
If an installed F6220 develops channel errors, loses valid temperature values, or requires planned spare replacement, the replacement should match the required F6220 hardware configuration and the host H41q/H51q system arrangement. Before ordering, verify the exact part number, hardware revision, system compatibility, field wiring, thermocouple type, hazardous-area requirements and configured channel behavior. A visually similar analog input module is not automatically an equivalent replacement for F6220.

Yes. F6220 is specifically designed as an intrinsically safe (Ex)i thermocouple input module. Its intended application includes intrinsically safe field circuits, with the complete installation required to satisfy the applicable hazardous-area requirements. The technical description permits thermocouples to be installed up to Zone 0 when the installation is correctly engineered.
Is HIMA F6220 a direct replacement for an F6217 already installed in an H41q/H51q system?
Not automatically. F6217 and F6220 are both safety-related input modules, but F6220 is specifically designed for thermocouple temperature acquisition and includes the (Ex)i input design plus a Pt100 reference-temperature input. Replacement selection must therefore confirm the field signal type, hazardous-area requirements, system configuration and exact hardware designation.
