Resistors, capacitors and zener diodes establish input thresholds and filter the incoming DC signal.

Opto-isolators separate the field input circuits from the module logic.

One module, two field-current directions

Positive logic

Input devices connect between the positive power bus and the input terminals. Current passes from the field device through the input circuit to the common or negative bus.

Negative logic

Input devices connect between the negative power bus and the input terminals. The input circuit supplies current toward the device and accepts the return through the common or positive bus.

All 16 inputs must use the same logic orientation. Positive or negative operation is selected through the external supply connection and terminal-block wiring.

1. Can IC670MDL641 accept both sourcing and sinking field devices?

Yes. It supports positive or negative logic through the orientation of the external supply. All 16 inputs must use the same logic orientation.

2. What voltage is required for a reliable ON state?

Positive logic requires +34 to +60 VDC. Negative logic requires −34 to −60 VDC.

3. Does the module provide isolation between every input?

No. The field group is isolated from logic and frame ground, but the individual points inside the 16-point group are not isolated from one another.

4. What does the PWR LED confirm?

The PWR LED confirms the presence of both field power and backplane power.

5. How quickly does an input-state change reach the module buffer?

Both ON and OFF transitions are typically processed in 6 ms. Maximum response is 10 ms for ON and 20 ms for OFF.
