16 mm Eddy Current Sensor

The PR6424/006-030 is a 16 mm non-contact eddy current sensor configuration within the PR6424 family. It is intended for demanding turbomachinery measurements including radial and axial shaft dynamic displacement, shaft position, eccentricity and speed/key measurements.

The 16 mm sensing format is suited to applications involving larger rotating shafts, while the non-contact measurement principle allows the probe to monitor shaft movement without mechanical contact with the rotating target.

Measurement Architecture

The PR6424 series uses an eddy current sensing principle for contactless measurement of conductive targets. The sensor is designed for rotating machinery where shaft displacement and position need to be monitored continuously.

The 16 mm probe format provides a focused measurement area suitable for larger shaft applications. The sensor can be used as part of a complete measurement chain with a compatible signal converter.

01 — How should PR6424/006-030 be matched to the signal converter?

The PR6424 sensor is part of a complete eddy-current measurement chain. The compatible converter must be selected according to the intended sensor configuration and required output. Emerson's CON converter family provides connections for PR6424 sensors, so the converter configuration should be checked before ordering a complete measurement system.

02 — Is PR6424/006-030 suitable for large rotating shafts?

Yes. The PR6424 is a 16 mm sensor intended for applications involving larger shafts. Emerson specifies a minimum shaft diameter of 80 mm for the PR6424 sensor specification, making target geometry an important consideration during replacement selection.

03 — What should be checked when replacing PR6424/006-030?

The replacement should match the complete configuration rather than only the PR6424 family name. Check the M18 × 1.5 thread, non-armored construction, 100 mm sensor length, adaptor configuration, 8 m cable and LEMO termination against the installed arrangement.

04 — Can PR6424/006-030 operate in elevated-temperature machinery?

The PR6424 specification gives an operating temperature range of -35 to 150°C. The actual installation should also account for the selected hazardous-area classification, converter arrangement and installation conditions.
