Proximity Probe Housing Assembly
31000 / XL 8 mm
External Access · Protected Installation · Configured Probe Assembly
The 31000 series housing is designed for mounting proximity probes through a machine case, particularly for radially mounted vibration or Keyphasor measurements. Its construction allows access to the probe and extension cable from outside the machine, supporting probe-gap adjustment or probe replacement without dismantling the machine.

ENGINEERING PROFILE
Housing construction
The housing uses glass-reinforced polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) thermoplastic containing conductive fibers. The probe sleeve and retaining chain use AISI 304 stainless steel, while the outer sleeve and exterior screws use AISI 303 stainless steel.
SEALING ELEMENTS
Viton O-ring at the probe case and Neoprene O-ring between the sleeve and housing.

Radial monitoring
The housing family is typically used with radially mounted transducers for vibration or Keyphasor measurements. For radial vibration, the machine casing should be affixed to the bearing to obtain an accurate relative vibration signal.

External adjustment
External access allows probe-gap adjustment or probe replacement without dismantling the machine.
SAME SERIES
31000 / 32000 Proximity Probe Housing Family
The 31000 and 32000 families use the same general housing concept while offering different configuration systems. The 31000 series uses inch-based ordering dimensions, while the 32000 series provides metric configuration options. Probe choices include 3300 XL 8 mm, 3300 XL NSv, and 3300 XL 11 mm variants, with cable, standoff, penetration, fitting, and mounting-thread options selected according to the installation.

BUYER-FOCUSED QUESTIONS
31000-28-10-15-040-03-02 · FAQ
Can 31000-28-10-15-040-03-02 be selected by matching only the 3300 XL 8 mm probe?
No. The probe family is only one part of the configuration. This exact model also defines the 1.0 m cable, 1.5 in standoff adapter, 4.0 in penetration, fitting option 03 and 3/4-14 NPT mounting arrangement. For replacement purchasing, the complete part number should be matched to the existing installation rather than selecting a housing by probe diameter alone.
Does 31000-28-10-15-040-03-02 provide an explosion-proof housing?
No. The 31000/32000 housing is intended for mechanical and environmental protection and is not an explosion-proof housing. The specified 28 probe option has multiple approvals, but the approval status of the complete installation depends on the approved transducer system and the applicable installation arrangement. Where an explosion-proof housing is specifically required, the 31000/32000 family is not the housing type specified for that need.
Why does 31000-28-10-15-040-03-02 use both a 1.5 in standoff and a 4.0 in penetration?
The ordering structure separates the standoff-adapter dimension from the probe-penetration dimension. In this configuration, option 15 specifies a minimum 1.5 in standoff adapter, while option 040 specifies 4.0 in probe penetration. This distinction matters when matching the physical mounting geometry and replacement sleeve arrangement of an existing machine.
What should be checked before replacing 31000-28-10-15-040-03-02 in an existing installation?
Check the complete part number, probe type, cable length, standoff arrangement, penetration requirement, fitting arrangement and mounting thread. Also confirm the available physical clearance and the relationship between the C and D dimensions. For a 1.0 m cable, the published maximum C plus D dimension is 760 mm (30.0 in), subject to the applicable installation arrangement.
Is 31000-28-10-15-040-03-02 suitable for every axial-position measurement application?
No. The 31000/32000 housing family is typically used for radially mounted transducers for vibration or Keyphasor measurements. The specified application guidance states that when shaft axial position is measured with dual proximity probes, housing 21022 should be used instead. Application geometry and measurement method therefore need to be checked before selecting this particular housing configuration.
