YOKOGAWA · OPTICAL ESB BUS
SNT511-5F
Optical ESB Bus Repeater Slave Module
A slave-side optical repeater module designed to extend the ESB Bus connection through fiber-optic transmission in compatible Yokogawa control system architectures.
Optical ESB Bus Slave Module 5F Style
01 / PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Extending the ESB Bus with Optical Transmission
The Yokogawa SNT511-5F is the slave-side module in the SNT511 optical ESB bus repeater family. It receives the optical ESB connection from a compatible repeater or N-ESB bus module and connects onward to the ESB Bus Interface Module in the safety node unit. This arrangement allows ESB communication to extend beyond the normal copper bus segment.

02 / NETWORK ARCHITECTURE
The Slave-Side Position in an Optical ESB Link
SNT511-5F is installed on the slave side of the optical ESB connection. The optical link connects it to a compatible master-side repeater or N-ESB bus module. On the local side, the module connects through ESB Bus cable to the SSB401 interface in the SNB10D safety node unit. Correct master/slave pairing is essential to the intended network arrangement.

MASTER SIDE
SNT411 optical repeater or compatible N-ESB connection.
|
OPTICAL LINK
Fiber-optic cable carries the extended ESB connection.
|
SLAVE SIDE
SNT511-5F connects onward to the local ESB interface.

03 / FIBER CONNECTION
Fiber Type, Distance & Optical Attenuation
The optical ESB repeater arrangement uses two-core silica-based single-mode fiber. The specified connector is LC type. The supported total transmission distance is 5 km to 50 km across a maximum of two repeater stages. Optical attenuation between the paired modules must be controlled to the required range.

| Target Optical Attenuation |
3–4 dB between connected repeater modules |
| Total Distance |
5 km to 50 km, subject to system configuration |
When optical attenuation is below the specified target, an appropriate attenuator is required. Confirm the exact attenuation requirement for the installed style-code combination before commissioning.
04 / INSTALLATION CHECK
Four Checks Before Commissioning
| 01 |
Master/slave code: Confirm the SNT411 master-side suffix and style code match the SNT511-5F slave-side arrangement. |
| 02 |
Fiber specification: Verify LC connectors, two-core single-mode fiber and the required cable type. |
| 03 |
Optical attenuation: Measure the link attenuation and apply an appropriate attenuator when required. |
| 04 |
ESB connection: Confirm the local ESB cable connection to the SSB401 interface and the intended node arrangement. |

05 / FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
YOKOGAWA SNT511-5F · Buyer Questions
Q1. Can SNT511-5F be paired with an SNT411 master module that has a different style code?
The master and slave style-code combination must be compatible. For an F-style SNT511, verify that the master-side module is the corresponding SNT411-F arrangement or another specifically supported pairing. Do not select the pair by model family alone.
Q2. What should be checked if an SNT511-5F optical link does not establish communication?
Check the master/slave pairing, fiber continuity, LC connector cleanliness, correct two-core polarity and optical attenuation. Also confirm the local ESB cable connection to the SSB401 interface and inspect the node-side status indications.
Q3. Why might an optical attenuator be required with SNT511-5F?
The optical link requires the specified attenuation between connected repeater modules. If the fiber path has less attenuation than the required range, an attenuator may be needed to bring the optical level into the specified range. Measure the actual link rather than estimating from cable length alone.
Q4. Can SNT511-5F be used in a chain topology as well as a star topology?
The optical ESB repeater arrangement supports both star and chain connections. The complete network design must still respect the maximum two repeater stages and the permitted total transmission distance.
Q5. What should be checked when replacing an SNT511-5F in an existing safety node?
Confirm the complete style code, paired master module, fiber connector type, optical attenuation and local ESB interface. Also check the required G3 environmental condition and −20 to 70°C temperature range for the F style before returning the node to service.
