Woodward 8440-2080 easYgen-2300-5/P1 Genset Controller

Woodward 8440-2080 is the 5 A CT-input P1 version of the easYgen-2300 generator controller within the easYgen-2000 family. It is intended for generator-set control, measurement, synchronization, protection and coordinated operation where the controller must manage electrical measurements together with engine and breaker control functions.

The easYgen-2300 is designed for generator-set applications that require more than basic engine start and stop control. The controller combines electrical measurement, breaker control, synchronization functions, load management and generator protection within one control platform.

Model 8440-2080 belongs to the P1 configuration of the easYgen-2300 and uses 5 A current-transformer inputs. The controller supports single-unit mains-parallel operation and multi-unit island-parallel operation, making it suitable for generator systems where the electrical operating state must be continuously coordinated with the genset control sequence.

The easYgen-2300 combines generator measurement with automatic, manual and stop operating modes. Its control functions include generator-to-mains synchronization, multi-unit island parallel operation, automatic mains-failure operation, standby operation, load-dependent start/stop, load and reactive-power sharing, and remote control of selected operating quantities.

The 8440-2080 is suited to generator-set control systems where the controller must monitor generator electrical values and coordinate engine operation with breaker and load-management functions. The easYgen-2300 family supports single gensets operating in parallel with the mains as well as multiple gensets operating in island parallel mode.

During maintenance or troubleshooting, this model becomes relevant when a genset cannot complete a normal start sequence, cannot synchronize correctly, shows abnormal generator protection behavior, loses expected load-sharing behavior, or cannot operate the breaker sequence as intended.

A controller fault can therefore extend beyond a local display or I/O issue. If synchronization, protection or breaker-control functions are unavailable, the generator may be prevented from connecting to the required electrical system or from taking its expected share of the load. In standby or critical-power applications, this can increase the risk of extended downtime.

The P1 controller configuration provides configurable digital and analog I/O for generator-set control tasks. The 8440-2080 has eight configurable digital inputs, six configurable digital outputs and three configurable analog inputs.

Communication is handled through a FlexCAN interface, while the service connection can be made through USB or RS-232 using the appropriate Woodward DPC cable. CANopen expansion can provide additional external digital I/O when the application requires it.

The easYgen-2000 family contains the 2200, 2300 and 2500 controller levels. The 8440-2080 belongs specifically to the easYgen-2300 P1 configuration with 5 A current-transformer inputs. The 2300 family adds functions for generator and mains coordination, while the 2500 level expands the platform further with additional I/O and communication capability.

Within the 2300 family, 8440-2080 is the P1 5 A version, while 8440-2058 is the P2 5 A version. This distinction is important when replacing an existing controller because the package version affects the available functional arrangement and terminal configuration.
