MMS 6310 is a dual-channel key-pulse monitoring module within the MMS 6000 machine monitoring family. It is designed to receive key-pulse signals from compatible rotating-machine transducers and make those signals available to the monitoring system for phase reference and related machine-monitoring functions.

Monitoring Concept

The MMS 6310 provides two key-pulse channels for the MMS 6000 machine monitoring architecture. The module is intended for applications where a reliable rotational reference pulse is required by other monitoring functions.

The module supports compatible eddy-current transducer arrangements and provides key-pulse signals through the MMS 6000 system connection. Its two-channel design allows two independent key-pulse inputs to be integrated into the monitoring architecture.

Dual-channel key pulse
Two key-pulse channels are available for integration into the MMS 6000 monitoring architecture.
Phase reference
The key pulse provides a rotational reference that can be used by compatible MMS 6000 monitoring functions.
Sensor compatibility
The connection arrangement supports compatible PR 642x and PR 9376 transducer configurations.
Channel supervision
Channel Clear outputs provide a status indication for the individual monitoring channels.
Redundant supply input
Two supply inputs are decoupled by diodes, and at least one supply input is required for module operation.
System communication
An RS485 bus connection allows the module to operate within an MMS 6000 monitoring network.

Static displacement
Selection point: MMS 6310 is the key-pulse-focused choice in the series, while MMS 6312 combines rotational-speed and key-pulse functions. The two should therefore not be treated as interchangeable simply because both use a key-pulse signal.

Rotating Machinery Reference

MMS 6310 is intended for rotating-machine monitoring systems where a key pulse is required as a rotational reference for compatible monitoring functions.

Turbine & Compressor Systems

The module can be integrated into MMS 6000 installations used around rotating equipment where key-pulse reference signals are required for machine monitoring.

Channel Status Abnormality

If a channel does not provide the expected key-pulse condition, the Channel Clear status should be checked together with sensor wiring, transducer compatibility and supply conditions.

Replacement Matching

For a replacement, verify the existing rack position, two-channel arrangement, transducer type, wiring, RS485 architecture and supply configuration before fitting the module.

Important installation point: The transducer cable screen must not be connected to earth, GND or the extension-cable screen because this can short the sensor supply voltage.

Q1. Is MMS 6310 the right replacement when the existing system needs a dedicated key-pulse function?
MMS 6310 is specifically designed as a dual-channel key-pulse monitor within the MMS 6000 architecture. It is appropriate when the replacement requirement is centered on key-pulse acquisition and distribution to compatible monitoring functions. If rotational speed measurement is also required directly from the module, MMS 6312 should be evaluated separately because its function combines rotational speed and key pulse.
Q2. What should be verified before ordering MMS 6310 as a replacement for an installed module?
Verify the existing MMS 6000 rack arrangement, channel count, transducer type, wiring, RS485 bus configuration and supply arrangement. The replacement should also match the intended key-pulse function rather than simply matching the physical card format.
Q3. Can MMS 6310 work with the PR 642x sensor family used in an existing monitoring system?
Yes. The MMS 6310 connection arrangement is designed for compatible PR 642x transducer configurations. The actual replacement should still be checked against the installed sensor type, wiring arrangement and system rack configuration before installation.
Q4. Why can MMS 6310 show an abnormal channel condition even when the module is receiving power?
Power availability alone does not confirm a valid key-pulse signal. The sensor connection, transducer compatibility, signal path, Channel Clear status and related system wiring should be checked. The transducer cable screen is also important because incorrect connection can short the sensor supply voltage.
Q5. Is MMS 6310 interchangeable with MMS 6312 when both applications use a key-pulse signal?
They should not be treated as automatically interchangeable. MMS 6310 is specified as a dual-channel key-pulse monitor, while MMS 6312 combines rotational-speed and key-pulse monitoring. The required machine-monitoring function, channel configuration and existing system arrangement should therefore be checked before selecting the replacement.
