THE QUESTION MAINTENANCE TEAMS FACE
What happens before a machine actually fails?A large rotating machine can continue running while something in its mechanical behavior is changing. That change may not immediately appear as a dramatic breakdown. Instead, it can emerge through measurable vibration. For maintenance teams, this creates a practical challenge: how do you look at the machine closely enough to understand what its vibration is telling you? The EMERSON MMS6140 approaches this question through two independent measurement channels, allowing shaft and bearing vibration to be considered separately or together. |
IN SIMPLE TERMS
One machine.
More than one signal. Different sensors observe different aspects of machine movement.
The useful question is not simply how much vibration exists, but what the relationship between measurements can reveal.

LOOKING AT TWO SIDES OF THE MACHINE
Why two vibration measurements can tell a wider storyThe MMS6140 has two independent sensor inputs. Channel 1 is intended for eddy-current sensors, while Channel 2 is intended for seismic or piezo-electric sensors. Each channel can be configured independently. The two channels can also be used together when the application requires a combined measurement. |
|
CHANNEL 01
Relative Shaft Vibration
The first channel works with an eddy-current sensor and is used for relative shaft vibration measurement. |
CHANNEL 02
Bearing Vibration
The second channel works with a seismic or piezo-electric transducer for bearing vibration measurement. |

FROM THE TECHNICAL SIDE
The interesting part is what happens when the signals meetThe MMS6140 does not simply place two measurements next to each other. In its dual-channel measuring mode, the bearing vibration signal is subtracted in phase from the shaft vibration signal. This process allows the module to calculate shaft vibration as an absolute value. For a maintenance team, the practical value is straightforward: the module provides another way to interpret shaft movement by combining two different measurement approaches. The two channels can also operate independently when the application does not require the combined measuring mode.

WHEN A REPLACEMENT IS NEEDED
Keeping the sourcing process practicalIndustrial maintenance rarely involves only one component. A monitoring module can sit within a larger system containing sensors, pre-processors, control cards and other specialized automation equipment. When a specific module is required for an existing installation, accurate model selection becomes an important part of the purchasing process. AMIKON Limited works with customers looking for specialized automation spare parts across process control, turbine control, machine monitoring and industrial robotics. INQUIRE ABOUT MMS6140 |

Vibration monitoring provides a way to observe changes in rotating equipment before the situation becomes an obvious mechanical event.
The EMERSON MMS6140 takes a two-channel approach, allowing relative shaft vibration and bearing vibration to be measured separately or used together for absolute shaft vibration calculation.
For maintenance teams working with established machine monitoring systems, having the correct replacement component can be an important part of keeping the sourcing process moving.
