Description
The 1746-NIO4I is an SLC 500 Four Channel Analog I/O module by Allen-Bradley. This module is combination module which comes with Two (2) inputs and Two (2) output points in a single slot module. It has 2 differential voltage or current input points and 2 current outputs with an overall backplane current draw of 55mA at 5 Volts and 14 5mA at 24 Volts. Its points have a common mode voltage of -20 to 20 Volts with a common module rejection signal of 105 dB at 60 Hertz and a Normal mode rejection signal of 55dB at 60 Hertz. The 1746-NIO4I uses the Sigma-Delta ADC converter with a converter resolution of 16 bits, +/-1 LSB, and 0.01% repeatability and Non-Linearity. Its normal input current ranges between -20 and +20 mA with a current impedance of 250 Ohms and a resolution of 1.22 A per LSB. The 1746-NIO4I has an overall accuracy of +/-0.642% at 0 to 60 degrees Celsius with a drift accuracy of +79 ppm/5 degrees Celsius and maximum gain and drift errors of +/- 0.556% and +/- 67ppm/ degrees Celsius. The 1746-NIO4I also has a voltage input rating of -10 to 10 Volts DC and a 760 KOhms voltage impedance at a resolution of 305 microVolts per Least Significant Bit (LSB). It also has an accuracy of +/- 0.504%, and a drift accuracy and error of +/- 63 ppm/degree Celsius and +/- 57 ppm/degree Celsius. The 1746-NIO4I offers overvoltage at either 220 Volts AC (RMS) or 220 Volts DC (continuous). The current outputs have a load range of 0 to 500mA with its normal range at 0-20 mA and a 5% over-range capability at 2.56348 microA per LSB signal resolution. The 1746-NIO4I also has an overall accuracy of ±0.541% with a drift accuracy of ±70 ppm/degree Celsius and a gain and offset error of ±0.516% and +/-12 LSB. The entire module has a 500 Volt-tested isolation between fields in the wiring-to-backplane isolation and it has an aggregate update time of 512 microSeconds for all channels. The 1746-NIO4I’s operational temperature ranges between 0 and 60 degrees Celsius at a 5 to 95% non-condensing relative humidity.

Related - Configuring Your Module
The NI4, NIO4I and NIO4V analog modules have user selectable DIP switch settings which allow you to configure the input channels as either current or voltage inputs. The switches are located on the analog module board. The following illustration shows the ON and OFF switch settings. Switch orientation is also provided on the nameplate of the module.
Switch Settings for the 1746-NIO4I and -NIO4V
The NIO4I and NIO4V have 2 individual switches labeled 1 and 2. These switches control the input mode of input channel 0 and 1. A switch in the ON position configures the channel for current input. A switch in the OFF position configures the channel for voltage input.
