Summary
ABB’s DSMB-01C slides straight into an MNS³.0 drawer to turn an ordinary contactor starter into a smart, network-ready motor control centre. It measures true RMS current, voltage, power, kWh and running hours through external CTs/VTs and offers motor-class protection: thermal-overload (I²t), stall, phase-loss, unbalance and earth-fault—all without an external relay. Eight built-in relay outputs can signal “ready / tripped / alarm” or trip the breaker directly, cutting panel wiring by >30 %. Profibus-DP puts every amp, volt and event on the PLC bus, so plants can trend energy, schedule predictive maintenance and prove compliance without extra meters. Hot-swappable while the drawer is isolated, and rated –25 °C … +70 °C, the DSMB-01C is a favourite upgrade for refineries, food plants and data-centre chillers that need IEC 60947 motor protection plus digital transparency in one 0.3 kg package.
